New Film Exposes the Suffering of Blood Mares in South America

The film reveals the shocking reality faced by pregnant mares on these farms: coercion, panic, untreated injuries, and relentless abuse define their daily existence.

Between 2023 and 2025, our team conducted extensive on-site investigations to document conditions on South American blood farms. The footage shows mares being restrained week after week to extract around 10 liters of blood. Their foals are aborted, and injuries are left untreated. Coercion, fear, and extreme suffering are the harsh reality on these farms.

Renowned experts—including equine veterinarian Theo Tschanz from the Swiss Horse Clinic in Niederlenz and South American legal specialists—have evaluated our findings. Their conclusion is clear: such treatment of horses is illegal. Production of PMSG should be banned in Argentina and Uruguay.

Countries that allow the use of this "torture hormone", including Germany—Europe’s second-largest pork producer—also bear responsibility. That is why we are calling for a legal ban on the production, import, and use of PMSG in Germany as well.

The film is a powerful appeal: the more people know about the "torture hormone" PMSG, the stronger the public pressure against this practice becomes.
