The weather is not supporting our work today: we are inspecting animal transports with Road Transport Inspectors in wind, rain and hail. The first stopped truck is empty, documents and construction are OK. The second one, a national pig transport, raises our doubts about loading density, but after careful calculations we see that there are no infringements. The next pig transport, however, has severe infringements: the trailer is in bad technical condition, the dividers are bad and pose the risk of injury to animals, and moreover no dividers are installed on the lowest deck. As a result, the animals are crowded at the back, resting one on another, so that ones at the bottom have problems breathing. We also note missing information in transport documentation and discrepancy between deck surface area in documents versus reality. The inspectors confiscate the documents of the vehicle and initiate administrative proceedings against the transporter. At the end of the day we inspect a transport of broilers to slaughterhouse. No major problems found.
