Three animal transports inspected today with Road Transport Inspection. The first truck looked familiar, and indeed it was the same one that we inspected yesterday, with the same driver. We were pleased to see again proper conditions for the animals. The driver only received a warning for incomplete documentation under Art. 4 of Reg. 1/2005. The second national pig transport was correct as well, the only shortcoming was missing information in transport documentation. The last inspection of the day concerned a transport of pregnant heifers from Estonia to Turkey – a journey of estimated duration exceeding 140 hours! The animals were carried on two decks and did not have enough headspace, even though the roof of the vehicle was lifter. The bedding was already severely soiled, there was no extra bedding or extra food on board of the truck. Thanks to exemplary work of ITD and Veterinary inspectors, the transport was sent to the nearest control post, with the order to unload and continue the journey with two trucks and animals loaded on one deck only.
