After resting 24 hours in Ibbenbüren, the calves are transported further. On the highway B51 in direction of Trier, the drivers stop to regulate the internal temperature of the truck by opening or closing some of the ventilation flaps. The outside temperature is -3°C. Two hours after passing the French border, the drivers stop again on the highway A31 in direction of Dijon-Lyon in order to control the ventilation and temperature. The outside temperature is still -2°C. We can hear some calves mooing. The next stop is for changing drivers and according to the animal transport regulation they are supposed to stop for an hour to feed and rest the calves. However, animal transporters are only equipped to carry water, and the drivers know that cold water makes young calves sick. They can technically not be fed with milk replacer or electrolytes on board the vehicle. So the drivers do not give any liquid and continue driving in the direction of Marseille.
