Today we want to visit the blood farm “Loma Azul”, one of the farms of the probably largest blood producer, Syntex Uruguay SA. From customs documents we know that Syntex Uruguay alone exports blood serum worth about 2 Mio. US-Dollars to Europe every month.
The blood farm is secured like a military facility. We manage to pass the first barrier, at the second one we have to stop. The gate is closed and there is a sign with the inscription “no trespassing”. We call the number shown on the sign and are told to contact the manager Alejo Menchaca. But he does not want to meet us, even less provide information.
From a reliable, confidential source we received the information that Syntex is one of Clay’s ten largest suppliers and shipped 795 horses to slaughter in 2014.
