Call on the EU Commission now: No more animal transports to crisis zones!

Stop the transport of live animals to the war zone

Bombs are falling, ports are under attack—and yet the EU continues to export live animals by ship to the Middle East. Despite the renewed escalation of violence, cattle and sheep from EU member states are being transported to Israel, Lebanon, and other countries in the region. Sign the petition now to stop animal transports to the crisis zone.

Transporting live animals to an active or expanding war zone is highly risky—for animals and for people. On the high seas, the animals are completely at the mercy of the situation. Military attacks, port closures, or delays at sea can result in them having to wait for days or weeks, suffering greatly, and in the worst case, dying in agony.

Just how real this danger is was already demonstrated last year: At the port of Haifa, animals were left on a cargo ship for an extended period after a rocket struck in the immediate vicinity and the crew had to evacuate to safety.

Under EU law, animals may not be transported if they face the risk of injury or unnecessary suffering during transit. In an active conflict zone, this risk is obvious and foreseeable. In our view, such transports are not eligible for approval.

Together with over 30 organizations, we have therefore sent an open letter to EU Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi. We are calling on the European Commission to immediately suspend live animal exports to affected regions. But political pressure only arises when many people speak out. Take a stand now—sign our petition for an immediate halt to animal transports to conflict zones.

Please help put an end to these dangerous transports.
