The Brussels Times: Why are unsafe ships still being allowed in the EU?

At the center of the reporting by the Belgian "The Brussels Times" is the question of the re-approval of problematic ships. In the context of our latest report (together with Robin des Bois), it is particularly evident there how poorly the control of applicable EU law between the EU and member states really operates. For example, how member states conduct inspections on livestock carriers is not sufficient to ensure animal welfare during transports at all. If such insuffiencies are reported, the Commission only recommends change to the concerned member state.
